Maori arts rotation!

As part of Maori language week some classes took part in a Maori arts rotation where children made putiputi (flax flowers), kowhaiwhai patterned headbands and poi as well as participating in traditional waiata and rakau (stick) games. Everyone had lots of fun and learnt some new skills!

Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori

Kia ora everyone! As you probably know last week was Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori - Maori language week! We celebrated this by trying to use lots of Te Reo in the classroom and made a wall display using photos of some of the words that we know. These are some of the pictures up on the wall - do you know what they are? (hint - the photos are a big clue!)

Guinea pigs on holiday!

Grumpy Bear!

We have made another movie! This one is also about one of our big books - Grumpy Bear by Jill Eggleton. We had lots of fun getting into our character roles and making our headbands. We think our Grumpy Bear is very clever to remember all the words and actions! Hollywood here we come!!

Holidays are...

We have been writing poetry about what holidays are to us. This is a 'word cloud' made from some of our ideas! (to make it bigger just click on the picture!)

The bird dance!

Room 7 does the 7 Jumps!

For our P.E. programme this term we have been learning various folk dances. The junior school shared some of their favourites with parents last week at our folk dancing festival. Room 7 were the lucky last class up and performed the '7 Jumps'! We had lots of fun and got to pull all the parents and teachers up to join in the bird dance after we had finished.
